This is my last blog post for the 2015 UIWP Summer Institute.
It is so hard to believe that it's the end. When you do a program like this, you get into a rhythm where you're having so much fun and engaging in so many wonderful activities that you forget that there will come a day where you don't come to freezing 42A. Won't eat delicious snacks at regular intervals. Won't watch phenomenal demos that make you excited to be an educator. Won't have time built into your day to explore yourself as a writer.
But here we are. Maybe if we all just stage a sit-in in 42A people will be to uncomfortable to make us leave.
But probably not...
So what has this experience been for me?
As a learner in an unfamiliar medium, I have had to take risks and face challenges without a great deal of time to plan or make decisions. In turn, I have become more comfortable with myself--come to trust myself as a creative individual.
I have drawn upon myself and those around me for inspiration. It is so amazing to be around a great group of people dedicated to writing and willing to give unwavering support. We never had to worry about being judged for writing that was done quickly or with little preparation or even writing that we have been working on for years. It was safe. That feels rare and special.
